White Ribbon Day in Marrickville

22 November 2011

White Ribbon Day was a fantastic day with Marrickville and surrounding areas all coming together to say no to violence against women. It was a day of performances, guest speakers, bbq, pledges, womens rights, organisational tables, an Aboriginal art auction and a youth space.

The event was hosted by Multi Mix Mob and with the efforts of many volunteers, organisations and performers it was a great success despite the rain. Local high schools, primary schools, playgroups and Ultimo TAFE students - young and old,  came together to take in a great message.

The day was even aired on NITV News.

Carmel Tebbutt - Shadow Minister for Education supported the day with a grant to fund it.

The male pledges were the highlight for organiser Nicole Ryan, with over 35 young men and older men standing together saying the Oath.

An emotional day left attendees feeling that the message got out there: we need to break the silence and make it everyone's business!
