Woollahra Council White Tie Event

24 November 2011

More than 90 people from across Sydney’s East took part in a White Tie event in support of the White Ribbon Campaign on 24 November 2011. The event was organised through a partnership between Woollahra Council, Holdsworth Community Centre, Community of Schools in the Eastern Suburbs and Bondi Beach Cottage.

Mayor Cr Susan Wynne spoke about the importance of challenging attitudes and behaviours.  “No community can move forward if we are to remain silent about violence against women” she said.  “All members of the community have a role in generating social changes as domestic violence has no boundaries of age, race, gender, income or social stance.”

White Ribbon Ambassador, Dr. Phil Lambert, Regional Director at the NSW Department of Education and Training, urged men and women to speak out against violence and to challenge behaviours and attitudes that have allowed it to continue.
