Workplace Program: prevention in practice

17 May 2012

White Ribbon recently received a humbling email from a father who was writing on behalf of his daughter.  For privacy reasons we have concealed the name of the author, the name and the location of the employer, however, we wanted to share with you a practical example of how workplaces can and should respond to incidents of violence against women.

To whom it may concern,

I am just writing to highlight the wonderful support my daughter has received from her [employer]. She was employed in a [regional area] as a store manager and unfortunately had to leave the town quickly for her own safety and well-being following a domestic situation which ended up in court.

There was absolutely no fuss made by [her employer] about her having to leave immediately and move back home with us, they have also been very helpful and considerate in placing her in another position elsewhere almost immediately, this has been a very important part of her getting back to a normal lifestyle and regaining her confidence and independence.

I just thought it was very important to let you know that [her employer is] not only supporting you but acting directly on their own behalf with care and compassion in the spirit of your organisation and are really genuine great ambassadors, we as a family are very appreciative of the work you are all doing and thank all concerned for the effort and support.
