Racing to raise funds to stop violence against women
A first of a kind donation drive has been launched by the horse racing industry in support of White Ribbon, Australia’s campaign to stop violence against women. Throughout March, iSyndicate is asking racing syndicators across Australia to match their donations of $30 for each syndicated horse that wins a race and $10 for each place finish.
iSyndicate Director, Brad Scott explained all monies raised will go directly to White Ribbon Australia, to support primary prevention initiatives aimed at stopping men’s violence against women in schools, workplaces and the broader community.
“We’re really excited because this will be the first donation drive of its kind in the industry,” Mr Scott said.
“We are asking racing syndicators to match our donations so as to double the money raised for White Ribbon Australia. Donations can also be made at http://www.white-ribbon-au.myshopify.com/products/donation. The code ‘horses’ must be entered to contribute to the donation drive.”
White Ribbon Australia CEO, Libby Davies welcomed the donation drive as an exciting new fund and awareness raising event.
“This is an opportunity to educate the racing industry on the extent of men’s violence against women in Australia and its horrendous consequences – at least one woman is killed every week by a current or former partner,” Ms Davies said.
“And it is an opportunity to empower individuals and groups to become actively engaged in the White Ribbon Campaign, whether that be through making a donation in support of our work, or becoming active in the prevention activity.”
Interviews and photo opportunities can be arranged.
