"You might not change the whole world, but you can change the experiences of those around you." – Jess Hill

On Wednesday night (October 28), White Ribbon Australia and Harmony Alliance hosted '#TogetherWeRise' - a webinar featuring Lawyer and human rights advocate Nyadol Nyuon and Journalist Jess Hill in conversation with White Ribbon Australia's Executive Director Brad Chilcott.

People all across the country tuned in to an honest discussion around gender equality and in particular, the social, political and cultural scope surrounding violence against women.

White Ribbon Australia and Harmony Alliance work towards tackling the issues and impact of gender-based violence in culturally and linguistically diverse (CaALD), migrant, and refugee communities in Australia.

An important message arising from the discussion was to reject divisive agendas we see in politics and the like, and instead work together in solidarity to celebrate the beauty of diversity.

It was also a call to everyone to connect with people who encounter experiences different to their own and to challenge the opinions we see in the media, rather than blindly accepting them.

The conversation also highlighted how change does not start at a drastic level - it starts with everyday people coming together to realise the priviledges we take for granted and using this understanding to influence change in our workplaces, groups and broader communities.

All in all, it was an insightful night and important conversation re-iterating the role we can play in ending men's violence against women, and in amplifying the voices of those who may not have the same opporutnities we do.
