White Ribbon Australia has launched a new fund for locally-led initiatives to prevent men’s violence against women, in a push to support grassroots groups that are making a difference on the ground.

“Men’s violence against women isn’t unique to any one community, but the solutions are,” says Brad Chilcott, Executive Director of White RibbonAustralia.

The Community Response Fund will offer grants for initiatives that are unique to each community, designed and delivered with local stakeholders, victim-survivors, and specialist safety services.

Applications will be independently assessed based on
merit, unique Community Response Plans designed to prevent men’s violence and abuse against women.

“To make a meaningful difference for women who experience sexism and violence every day, we need action, we need solutions that work, and those solutions will look different in every town and community,” says Mr Chilcott.

“We want to empower local groups that understand how sexist attitudes are formed in their community, so they can deliver initiatives that will work for them.

“That will look very different in a regional mining town compared to a multicultural suburb in Melbourne.“Every dollar will supports solutions that are community-designed, tailored and effective.

“The more groups we can support across Australia, then community by community, we can eradicate the conditions that allow gendered violence to occur.

“Every donation brings us closer to an Australia where in every sporting team, every club, every church, mosque or synagogue, womenenjoy genuine equality and men’s violence against them is never tolerated.”
