Learning how to have difficult conversations and taking the right approach with advocacy is important.
While the intention may not be to abuse or control someone, the most important gauge or indicator is the impact or effect of these behaviours on another person’s sense of safety and wellbeing.
White Ribbon Australia believe that the starting point for addressing violence and abuse is being brave and open enough to consider how other people experience us and the impact our behaviour has on them. It can be challenging to reflect on our own behaviour or on the behaviour of someone we are close to when it has such a negative impact on those we care about.
If you are concerned about your or another man’s behaviour, or its impact on a woman or child, we urge you to reach out. There are services available that are specialised to support men without judging them, to use positive, respectful and healthy behaviours for change.
