Meet White Ribbon Australia's Senior Leadership team

The Senior Leadership Team at White Ribbon is a highly skilled staff team from diverse sector backgrounds, including social work, government, humanitarian aid, education, not-for-profit and corporate.

They work together to shape and inform White Ribbon’s work and direction.

Delia Donovan: Chief Executive Officer

Delia Donovan has extensive experience in women’s health and community services. This includes 20 years of social work experience, including as CEO of an award winning domestic abuse charity in the UK.

Delia is the Chair of Prosper Project Australia and has been recognised and awarded for her work in innovation across social care settings. She has various leadership and management qualifications and holds a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours).

Prior to becoming CEO, Delia was White Ribbon’s Director of Community & Programs, supporting the grassroots efforts associated with the movement.

 

 

 

Dale Palmer

Executive Manager, Engagement and Facilitation of Breaking the Silence Schools Program

Dale Palmer is the lead facilitator and engagement manager of the Breaking the Silence Schools Program, which runs workshops that aim to make real generational change in the areas of gender equality and domestic violence. The program is supported by Directors and Principals who co-facilitate these workshops.

Dale has 40 years’ experience in the educational sector, and was the Principal at two different schools for a total of 6 years. He was instrumental to the pilot BtS program implementation in 2009 across NSW.

Esther Obdam

Executive Manager, Children and Youth Programs

Esther Obdam manages White Ribbon’s Children and Youth Programs. She is responsible for managing the ongoing development and implementation of child and youth focused initiatives to drive positive cultural change amongst young Australians.

Esther has over 20 years of experience in child and youth focused international development and humanitarian aid. She has worked in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe as an expert in children’s rights, with a focus on child protection and children’s meaningful participation.  Esther has also worked in Sydney as an Independent Consultant to the Fred Hollows Foundation and Marie Stopes International. Esther holds a Masters in International Relations.

Laura Maclean

Senior Executive, Public Affairs

Laura Maclean is responsible for facilitating, supporting and driving internal idea generation across Senior Executives and the wider team. She assists in positioning White Ribbon Australia both politically and strategically, and identifies and drives collaboration and business development opportunities.

She is also responsible for setting the vision, strategy and management for the organisation’s marketing and communications.

Laura has over 12 years’ experience in strategic leadership, communications and project management for membership-based organisations.

Liam Dooley

Senior Executive, Community Programs

Liam Dooley is responsible for the strategic management and coordination of White Ribbon’s Community Programs. This includes supporting the Ambassador and Advocate Program, Committees, elite and grass-roots Sports Engagement and the Fatherhood and Diversity projects.

Prior to interning with White Ribbon in 2012 as Ambassador Engagement Officer, Liam worked as a General Manager in hospitality, and has worked closely with “at-risk” young people. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Criminology) from the University of New South Wales.

Mitchell Watson

Executive Manager, Revenue and Partnerships

Mitch plays an integral role in the development and delivery of White Ribbon’s fundraising strategy. The strategy follows a multichannel approach to diversify income and increase revenue, and is focused on corporate partnerships, merchandise, community fundraising and managing organisation relationships with donors.

Mitchell is a fundraising professional with over six years’ experience in the charity sector. He was previously the National Manager of The Heart Foundation, where he developed and implemented the national strategy to the Heart Foundation’s flagship program – Jump Rope for Heart. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Health Science.

Nici McCann

Executive Manager, HR and Finance

Nici works across all levels of the organisation, providing a professional and efficient overview of the human resources management & strategy, and finance. White Ribbon’s HR management is designed to support the organisation’s development, culture and management of issues.

Nici partners with senior staff to identify HR priorities and recommend appropriate people management solutions.

Nici has almost 20 years’ experience in various roles at global companies such as E.ON, Coca-Cola and Siemens. Nici moved to Australia in 2010, when she started working for White Ribbon. She holds a Masters in Business and a Diploma in Human Resources Management and Services.

Ronan Smyth

Executive Manager, Workplace Program

Ronan is responsible for the management and operational delivery of White Ribbon’s Workplace Accreditation Program. He oversees the program’s delivery and implementation, and the coordination of workplace assessors.

Ronan is a highly experienced Senior Manager with over 13 years’ experience within the Welfare to Work and Skills sectors. He was a Senior Manager for the largest charitable Welfare to Work provider in the UK, driving its strategic direction and performance. He specialises in operational performance, recruitment, external relations and strategic leadership. Ronan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree.

Sonia Mar

Senior Executive, Shared Services

Sonia provides strategic and operational leadership across the Shared Services portfolio, including finance, HR, IT, administration, and risk/compliance frameworks. Sonia works closely with the senior management team to assist with the organisation’s financial position and mitigation of risk.

Sonia is a qualified CPA member with over 23 years’ experience in both not-for-profit and commercial sectors. She has experience in numerous executive and management roles, such as Director of Resources (Asia Pacific) for World Animal Protection, and Financial Controller for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. Sonia holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and Management.
