White Ribbon Assembly and activities to address gender stereotypes
19 November 2018 - 24 November 2018
All students will be encouraged to wear a white t-shirt to our whole school Assembly which will focus on gender stereotypes. During this assembly a White Ribbon Ambassador, our Principal, will talk about gender stereotypes and we will watch a video clip made by Year 5 students about stereotypes. After the assembly we will march around the block displaying signs that say “Walkerville Primary School supports White Ribbon.” After the march students will tie white ribbons to the school fences.
During the week we will also offer activities to highlight gender stereotypes such as self-defense classes and soccer skills lessons for Year 5-7 girls, cooking and netball classes for Year 5-7 boys and younger students will meet women in non-traditional roles e.g. a firefighter, ambulance driver, football umpire or football player.
Teachers will also have “White Ribbon” recess where we will have white cupcakes.
