A whole-of-community approach

Stopping violence against women requires a whole-of-community approach in which men and women from diverse backgrounds, experiences and professions work in collaboration.

White Ribbon Committees are groups of passionate Ambassadors, Advocates and Supporters who represent and coordinate the White Ribbon social movement. There are currently 30 White Ribbon Committees activating community owned and driven initiatives all over Australia.

What do White Ribbon Committees do?

With support from White Ribbon Australia, White Ribbon Committees:

  • create local strategies to address domestic violence through community involvement
  • host, support and participate in White Ribbon events
  • unite White Ribbon supporters and stakeholders to build relationships and opportunities
  • align with and support local services and organisations
  • promote cross-sector action throughout the community, including in workplaces, schools, sporting clubs and associations
  • fundraise to support White Ribbon’s essential programs and community development initiatives
  • use the committee’s networks and skills to shape the movement in a way that is relevant to its community.

Two types of committees

  • State and Territory Committees – these are formal groups working directly with White Ribbon Australia in the strategic coordination of the movement in a given state or territory
  • Local and Regional Committees – these are local communities across Australia that inform and drive the movement in their areas.
