Become a White Ribbon Advocate
White Ribbon Advocates
White Ribbon Advocates are female representatives of White Ribbon who promote gender equality, respectful relationships and the engagement of men in order to see a nation in which every woman lives in safety, free from men’s violence and abuse.
Who can become a White Ribbon Advocate?
The Advocate role is reserved for female White Ribbon Supporters above the age of 16 who wish to increase their engagement and participation with White Ribbon.
Supporters who wish to apply for the Advocate role need to meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the link between gender inequality and men’s violence against women
- Demonstrate an understanding and alignment with White Ribbon’s unique role in engaging men to make women’s safety a man’s issue too.
- Demonstrate activity in the last 12 months which actively promoted gender equality, respectful relationships and the engagement of men to prevent men’s violence against women.
White Ribbon recognises that men’s violence against women pervades all cultures therefore we encourage diversity of age, sexuality, ethnicity, faith and ability among applicants to ensure change is effected across all levels of society.

What is involved in being a White Ribbon Advocate?
White Ribbon Advocates stand alongside White Ribbon Ambassadors at the forefront of White Ribbon as a community owned social movement. Advocates actively engage men in their spheres of influence to see the social change necessary to end men’s violence against women.
The Advocate Program runs for two years and supports women across Australia with information, tools and development activities to promote gender equality, respectful relationships and the engagement of men in the prevention of violence against women.
White Ribbon Advocates are required to meet key milestone achievements under three streams over the course of their tenure; Educate, Engage and Act. These activities ensure that Advocates are adequately equipped with information and resources to effectively engage their local community to prevent men’s violence against women.
