Ambassador Q&A: Kerry Williams

Kerry Williams
April 2016

White Ribbon Ambassador Kerry Williams from Queensland hopes to make an impact on youth by standing up to violence against women.

What is your day job?

I work for a National Basketball League team, the Cairns Taipans, and my position is Cape & Communities Development Manager.

How long have you been a White Ribbon Ambassador?

I’ve been an Ambassador since November 2015.

Why did you decide to become an Ambassador?

I strongly agree with the campaign as violence against women in our community is something I stand strongly against.

In what ways have you been involved in the White Ribbon Campaign?

In my role as Cape and Communities Development Manager, I travel to the Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait Islands not only to promote the game of basketball, but also healthy lifestyles, being active, staying in school, and now, healthy relationships. I encourage young men to treat women and girls with love and respect.

Why is Gender Equality important to you as an Ambassador?

I believe that’s the world we should live in. Women should have every opportunity as men do. Everyone should be equal regardless of their gender or cultural background.

What goals do you hope to accomplish as an Ambassador in the future?

I hope in the future that we don’t have to campaign about men’s violence against women; I hope in society we see men’s violence as abnormal behaviour and gender equality as normal.
