Ambassador Q&A: Liam McAdam

Liam McAdam
May 2016

V8 Supercar driver and White Ribbon Ambassador Liam McAdam hopes to be influential as a male role model by standing up against violence against women.

What is your day job?

V8 Supercar Driver.

How long have you been a White Ribbon Ambassador?

I have been an ambassador since October 2015.

Why did you decide to become an Ambassador?

I decided to become an Ambassador to help raise awareness and inform people about violence against women, and to help teach men what they can do to help fix the issue of violence against women.

In what ways have you been involved in the White Ribbon Campaign?

As an Ambassador for White Ribbon, I have conducted a number of newspaper interviews over the course of the last eight months, as well as having the White Ribbon logo on my V8 Supercar, which I use as a tool to help raise awareness of the White Ribbon Campaign.

Why is Gender Equality important to you as an Ambassador?

In my role as an Ambassador, gender equality is important to me as it is the underlying cause of violence against women. Violence against women is the product of learned attitudes and norms, and social inequalities. Men need to be taught to respect women as their equals if violence against women is to be ended.

What goals do you hope to accomplish as an Ambassador in the future?

I hope to be able to continue being a positive role model for young men, both on and off the racetrack, and that I can be part of the solution that ends violence against women.
